The Tallis Scholars, known for Renaissance sacred music throughout the world, will be performing at St. Bartholomew's Church in Manhattan on 3/30. "The Field of the Cloth of Gold" pays homage to two 16th century composers, Jean Mouton of France and William Cornysh of England, who led their countries’ respective Chapels Royal in June 1520 as they sang in fields near Calais in celebration of a political summit at which Henry VIII and Francis I met to seal a treaty of friendship between their two warring countries.

The Tallis Scholars have devoted individual recordings to each composer for the two-hour program, including:

Jean Mouton: Nesciens mater

William Cornysh: Ave Maria

Mouton: Ave Maria

Mouton: Quaeramus cum pastoribus

Browne: Salve regina

Mouton: “Kyrie” and “Agnus dei” from the Missa Dictes moy toutes vos pensées

Mouton: Salva nos

Cornysh: Ah Robin

Cornysh: Woefully arrayed

Cornysh: Magnificat

The performance will show off the new acoustics of the majestic St. Bart’s nave, which last year underwent the replacement of pews by chairs to better capitalize on the design of the church both for acoustic and seating interests.

The two-hour concert has been underwritten by The Reed Foundation and will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30, at St. Bartholomew's Church, 325 Park Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets. Tickets range from $25 to $100 with a $3 handling fee each. The $100 Angel Club tickets include an invitation to the post-concert reception. Students and seniors may purchase tickets for $15 or $30 (depending on the selected tier) plus the $3 handling fee. Information is available at stbarts.org. (212) 378-0248.
