The Staten Island Zoo has announced that it is now the home to many new animals. In every wing you will find a new member of the Staten Island Zoo family.

The Zoo welcomes the following new species: a Eurasian Lynx, Tamanduas (lesser Anteaters), White-nosed Coatis, Scarlet Macaws and Bantam Chickens. In addition, three banded South American Armadillos and Sugar Gliders have joined the Zoo as education animals. These are just some of the new animals to see at the Staten Island Zoo.

New arrivals to the existing collection include Prairie Dogs,? Red-bellied Piranhas, North American River Otters and Blind Cave Fish.

Visit the Reptile Wing to see the new additions to the collection including Red Diamond rattlesnakes, Southern Pacific Rattlesnakes, an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Speckled Rattlesnakes, Mexican Lance-headed Rattlesnakes, South American Rattlesnakes and so many more.

Take a walk through the Tropical Forest aviary which now features free-flighted birds. The bat cave in the Tropical Forest is now the habitat of over 200 flying bats.

The Zoo will be hosting a daily 1:00 pm animal show where the visiting public can meet some our new residents and Zoo Ambassador animals up close. The show is free with admission and is held weather permitting as it takes place outdoors at our newly constructed presentation stage area.

"We are pleased to welcome these animals to their new home", said Ken Mitchell, Interim Executive Director. "Their arrival is part of our on-going efforts to fulfill our pledge that something is always new at the Staten Island Zoo".
