The Staten Island Zoo is thrilled to be the hosts of some visiting animals this summer, all native to Australia. They will be here and on exhibit until September 30th.

Due to the generous sponsorship of Pratt Industries, the Staten Island Zoo will have a new temporary exhibit titled, DOWN UNDER SUMMER, housing:
2 adult Red Kangaroos, a Joey Red Kangaroo (baby kangaroo), and 2 wallabies. Australian animal friends are not strangers to the Zoo. The Staten Island Zoo is home to the following Aussie Animals: Emus, Kookabura, and Frilled Lizard.

Our baby Kangaroo really wants to meet you. Joey Pratt is happy to meet and greet your reporters and viewers. Transported in a baby sling, Joey Pratt is available for close encounters at the Staten Island Zoo through the end of September.

Did you know?

An adult male Kangaroo is called a Buck, Boomer or Jack
An adultfemaleKangaroo is called a Doe, Flyer or Jill

For Wallabies, hopping is a fast and energy efficient method of travel, designed to cover huge distances in a land that offers little food or water. But while they're good at moving forwards, Wallabies can't hop backwards. You can come see our two Wallabies in our Down Under Summer Exhibit through the end of August!

The Red Kangaroo can reach speeds of 35 mph, leap 25 ft and jump up to 6 ft high. You can come see the only Kangaroo's in NYC this Summer at the Staten Island Zoo's Summer Down Under exhibit.
