Artistic director, Richard Mazda, and frequent collaborator, director Alberto Bonilla (Richard III, Merchant of Venice, Raft of Medusa) have teamed up again for The Secret Theatre's upcoming production of King Lear.

Bonilla, known for his timely twists on classic Shakespearean dramas, transports King Lear into a world of New York City's wealthy elite real estate titans. King Lear, suffering the beginnings of Alzheimer's disease, must divide his empire amongst his feuding children, while wrestling with his own mortality.

The cast is led by renowned character actor/director Austin Pendelton*, in the title role. Pendleton (Obie, Drama Desk winner and Tony nominee) created the role of "Motel" in the original Broadway cast of Fiddler on the Roof, as well as roles in films such as "Finding Nemo", "My Cousin Vinny", and "A Beautiful Mind". Lear's ruthless eldest daughters are played by Tony Award Nominated Elizabeth A. Davis* [Once] and Melissa MacLeod*. Planet Connections Festival's "Best Actress" Nominee, Meggy Hai Trang plays Lear's devoted yet misunderstood daughter, Cordelia.

The cast also stars Executive Producer Richard Mazda as Gloucester, Nick Chris as Edgar, Zachary Clark* as Edmund, Christopher McFarland* as the Earl of Kent, Alexander Stine as the Duke Albany, Timothy Mullins* as the Duke Cornwall, Jack Herholdt* as Fool, Thomas Muccioli as Oswald, Rand Guerrero as Burgundy and Paul Wallace as the King of France.

This daring and timely production has set designed by Michael David, lighting by Naftali Wayne, sound by Mike Lee, and costumes by Viviane Galloway.
