The School at Steps Presents Injury Prevention Workshop with Kurt Froman on 4/10

The School at Steps, a multidisciplinary dance center committed to inspiring the dancers of tomorrow through nurturing mentorship, will open it's doors to dancers of all ages and levels for The Injury Prevention Workshop, the final panel of its 2015-2016 Complete Dancer Series on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Led by health, wellness and medical professionals, this workshop will cover the importance of strength training, flexibility, injury prevention and recovery, and nutrition to enable a successful dance career.

The Complete Dancer Series is a major component of The Health and Wellness Program at The School at Steps. Consisting of three annual events, the series is designed to broaden the dance education of students by including resources and guidance on issues including injury prevention and recovery, physical therapy, nutrition, emotional wellness, and other supplemental services. Other events in the series have included College Day, Exploring D-ancestry, and Ask the Pros, all designed to educate students about the dance world, on stage and behind the scenes.

"Dancers utilize their body as a device for artistic expression, placing physical demands unlike any other art form," Director Kate Thomas explains, "The school is committed to students discovering their

individual artistic expression and technical development, but also maintains the responsibility of broadening their education on health, career expectations, and injury prevention, as they harness their artistic voices."

Taking on an interactive format, the workshop will welcome Dr. Jamie Blau of the Upper West Side Wellness Center, Dr. John Brummer, Podiatrist; Rachel Fine, Nutritionist; The

The School at Steps' Pre-Professional program emphasizes the students' responsibility to care and maintain a healthy and strong body, while fostering self-reliance and intellectual curiosity as crucial components to artistry.

Harkness Center for Dance Injuries, and Kurt Froman, currently in An American in Paris and former dancer in New York City Ballet, Movin' Out, and Starz's "Flesh and Bone". Nicole Battaglia, a student in The School at Steps' Pre-Professional Program will also give a demonstration led by stretch instructor Jessica Howard.

The Injury Prevention Workshop is sponsored by Dance Spirit Magazine.

Steps on Broadway is located at 2121 Broadway, at 74th Street and is accessible by the 1,2,3, C, and B trains to 72nd Street.

Directed by Kate Thomas, The School at Steps (SAS) cultivates young dancers from their first step in a dance studio through their pre-professional training. Through the guidance of an internationally recognized faculty, students discover their artistic voices in a creative and supportive environment. SAS encompasses the Young Dancers Program (18 months-5 years), Technique Program (6-18 years), and an audition based Pre- Professional Program (7-18 years), all curriculum based programs with individualized syllabi. School at Steps graduates have gone on to secure contracts with professional companies and perform on Broadway. Additionally, more than 95% of SAS graduates have continued training at top college dance programs.
