The School at Steps, a multidisciplinary training ground for the next generation of dancers, announces the 2016-17 Complete Dancer Series. With a mission to give young dancers a broad knowledge of the art form, The School at Steps kicks off the series with College Day, November 13, and continues into the spring with their annual Pointe Shoe Workshop and Fair, April 23, 2017.

College Day, sponsored by Dance Magazine, will offer a panel discussion for representatives from renowned Colleges and Universities to discuss their dance programs, application process, and audition tips with prospective applicants.

On November 13, The School is pleased to welcome representatives from the following institutions:

  • Adelphi University
  • Barnard College
  • Boston Conservatory at Berklee
  • Hofstra University
  • Marymount Manhattan College
  • Mercyhurst College
  • NYU Tisch School of the Arts
  • Princeton University
  • Sarah Lawrence College
  • Skidmore College
  • SUNY Purchase
  • University of Michigan

Following the panel, attendees will meet and speak with past School at Steps alumni to hear about their personal college experiences and performance careers.

The next event in the Complete Dancer Series is the annual Pointe Shoe Workshop and Fair. Designed for classical dancers interested in or currently dancing en pointe, this event will take place on April 23, 2017. Sponsored by Pointe Magazine, this seminar will welcome a panel of experts to discuss proper foot care, pointe shoe maintenance, and fitting instruction. Past panelists include podiatrist Dr. Brummer, pointe shoe fitter Mary Carpenter, master teacher Lisa Lockwood, and New York City Ballet Principal dancer Savannah Lowery. During this event, attendees may speak with pointe shoe vendors to set up appointments for fittings and future purchases. Past vendors include Capezio, Chacott by Freed, Gaynor-Minden, and Grishko.
