Now in its sixth year, The Public Theater's Mobile Shakespeare Unit is focused on bringing Shakespeare to non-traditional venues such as prisons, homeless shelters and centers for disadvantaged youth around the tri-state area.
A handful of actors, most of them playing multiple roles, travel by company van and participate in set-up and striking the modest set, props, and costumes as they present edited versions of Shakespeare's classics.
The company has just begun performing its current run of HAMLET, which includes free performances that are open to the public. In addition, the final three weeks of the run will be played at The Public Theater with eight performances per week, and will be open to the general public with tickets priced at $20.
