The Psychedelic Film And Music Festival Embarks On Inaugural Event This October In NYC ImagePrepare for an illuminating journey when The Psychedelic Film and Music Festival holds its inaugural event featuring a lineup of science fiction, horror, fantasy, surrealist and virtual reality films, music and stage performances and panel discussions set to explore the altered states of consciousness and truth behind the vibrant and enduring psychedelic culture. The week-long gathering will feature musical performances by Simon Boswell with The AND, Psychic Ills, Heaven, Michael Tapper, Roosevelt Island and Nosh alongside appearances by researchers Dr. Dennis McKenna, Robert Barnhart and other special guests notable for breakthroughs in the psychedelic community. Premiering at venues in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens, the festival will run October 1-7, 2018.

"This is a festival for healing," said Daniel Abella, the founder and director of the inaugural event. "The goal is to educate the public about alternative treatments for conditions including PTSD, the current opioid crisis and skyrocketing suicide rates among veterans and civilians." To provide awareness for such serious issues, the festival blended enlightenment with entertainment to serve as a touchstone for a modern psychedelic revolution. "The festival utilizes the visceral art forms of film and music," said Abella. "These are essential principles because they appeal to our visual, audio and kinesthetic senses and in doing so will allow individuals to achieve personal development and evoke emotional states of a higher well-being."

Let the music take over when New York City's hottest psychedelic rock bands, Psychic Ills and Heaven, collide for a night of intense and powerful tunes.

The seekers in New York City's Psychic Ills have spent more than a decade following their muse wherever it takes them. First gaining attention through their debut record Dins in 2006, they have released five studio albums and numerous EPs and singles that explore a variety of musical directions. The band's longest-running members are Tres Warren and Elizabeth Hart. They began working with Sacred Bones Records in 2011 with the release of Hazed Dream. One Track Mind followed two years later in 2013. In 2016 they released the sprawling double album Inner Journey Out, the culmination of an odyssey of three years of writing, traversing the psych-rock landscape they've carved throughout their career and taking inspired pilgrimages into country, blues, gospel, and jazz.

A romantic clash between your dad's long-lost favorite psych record and the soundtrack to a John Hughes film, Heaven rides a massive sonic wave in delivering dear and dreamy tracks. Band members include Matt Sumrow (vocals and guitar), Mikey Jones (drums), Liz Lohse (keyboards), and Eric Altesleben (guitars). Their sophomore album, All Love is Blue was released on March 2, 2018 via Little Cloud Records. Their latest work is a quantum leap forward for the band, both artistically and sonically, making the protracted wait between albums a huge payoff.
