The hit London production of The Producers will extend its run seven months through October 28th, 2006, at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The West End production of The Producers currently stars Fred Applegate (Max Bialystock), John Gordon Sinclair (Leo Bloom), Don Gallagher (Roger De Bris) and Leigh Zimmerman (Ulla). Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman, The Producers concerns the show biz partnership of Bialystock and Bloom, who hit upon the scheme of producing Broadway's biggest flop only to pocket the money and fly to Rio. They do not foresee, however, the possibility of Springtime for Hitler becoming a hit.

In addition to the West End extension, the new film version of The Producers will open in the UK on Boxing Day (December 26th), a day after the movie musical opens on 1,200 screens in the US. The film, produced by Mel Brooks and Jonathan Sanger and distributed by Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures, will open on even more screens January 13th. The movie musical features original Broadway stars Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Gary Beach and Roger Bart, as well as Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell.

As with the Broadway musical, the film version of The Producers is directed and choreographed by Stroman, features a score by Brooks and a book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan. All won Tonys for the show, which swept the Tony Awards in 2001 and won 12 awards, including Best Musical. Currently starring John Tracey Egan as Max and Hunter Foster as Leo, The Producers has so far chalked up a run of over 1900 performances. It opened at the St. James Theatre (246 W. 44th St.) on April 19th, 2001. The Producers also features costumes by William Ivey Long, sets by Robin Wagner, and lighting by Peter Kaczorowski, as well as musical direction by Patrick S. Brady and orchestrations by Douglas Besterman.
