Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman will play its final performance at the Booth Theatre (222 W. 45th St.) on Sunday, September 18th at 3 PM after 23 previews and 208 regular performances.
"We have rarely been prouder of a cast, a production and a play than we are of The Pillowman. The entire company raised the bar on Broadway for commitment and excellence. We thank everyone who contributed to this production for an extraordinary run," stated producer Bob Boyett. The play is also produced by Robert Fox, Arielle Tepper, Stephanie P. McClelland, Debra Black, Dede Harris, Morton Swinsky, Roy Furman, Jon Avnet and Joyce Schweickert.
The show will close at the conclusion of the current company's contracts. The Pillowman earned some of the strongest reviews of last season when it opened; The New York Times' Ben Brantley called it a "spellbinding stunner."
The Pillowman, which opened at the Booth Theatre (222 W. 45th St.) on April 10th
after starting previews on March 21st, is a thriller about a writer who
is interrogated by officials in a totalitarian government when life
gruesomely starts to imitate art. Directed by John Crowley, it stars
Jeff Goldblum, Billy Crudup and Michael Stuhlbarg. The latter two
actors were nominated for Tony Awards, as were Crowley and the play
itself. Both Scott Pask and Brian MacDevitt picked up Tonys for their
respective scenic and lighting designs; Pask also designed the costumes. In addition, Goldblum won an Outer Critics Circle Award, Stuhlbarg and sound designer Paul Arditti won Drama Desk Awards and the play was chosen Best Foreign Play by the New York Drama Critics.
The Pillowman plays Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2 p.m. and Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. Tickets, which range from $71.25-$96.25, are available through Telecharge.com (212) 239-6200, or in-person at the Booth Theatre box office.
