The New Yorker Recalls 2009's Top Ten Moments in Theatre

In the New Yorker online today, John Lahr weighs in on some of 2009's best plays and players, and makes his Tony prediction.  

His top play choice was Sarah Ruhl's Broadway debut play In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play.  For Lahr, In the Next Room is front-runner for Tony for best play come June. 

Other standouts of the season include Cate Blanchett in A Streetcar Named Desire, Grasses of a Thousand Colors, God of Carnage, and Blithe Spirit.

3. Wallace Shawn's "Grasses of a Thousand Colors."

6. Arthur Laurents's production of "West Side Story."
7. Helen Mirren in Racine's "Phèdre."
8. August Wilson's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone."
9. Geoffrey Rush in Ionesco's "Exit the King."
10. Lily Rabe in Richard Greenberg's "The American Plan."
