The New York Times fourth annual Arts & Leisure Weekend will be held January 7 - 9, 2005.  This year's event will be the largest in the four-year history of the event with more than 1,300 cultural institutions participating throughout the United States and Europe. The
weekend is the newspaper's annual signature event, a national and international celebration of art and culture.

Arts & Leisure Weekend was originally established in 2001 to mark The Times's 150th
anniversary and as a way to give back to its readers. Throughout the weekend, The Times partners with hundreds of cultural institutions in the United States and Europe to offer free admission, reduced prices and special events at museums, theaters, performing arts centers, tourist attractions, movie theaters, restaurants, spas and health clubs. This year organizations from 45 cities in the United States and 38 cities in Europe will participate.

In addition, in New York City, The Times will host a series of TimesTalks: Special Edition discussions which feature a wide array of arts luminaries in conversation with Times critics, reporters and editors. This year, headliners include the Honorable Mayor Michael
Bloomberg; actor Bill Murray; musician Josh Groban; actress/comedian Whoopi Goldberg; actors Patricia Clarkson, Susan Sarandon, Kiefer Sutherland, Hilary Swank and Barry Humphries (a.k.a. Dame Edna); illustrator/author Art Speigelman; crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz; artist Chuck Close; director/choreographer Susan Stroman; historian Doris Kearns Goodwin and journalists Seymour Hersh and Mike Wallace, to name a few. And on Monday, Jan. 10, as a finale to the weekend and to benefit The Actors' Fund Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic and MusiCares Foundation, John Mayer will play selected music and be interviewed by chief pop music critic for The Times, Jon Pareles.
