HAIR began preview performances on Friday, March 6th, and had its Opening Night on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. After a smash-hit run at Central Park‘s Delacorte Theater last summer, HAIR returns to Broadway for the first time in over 30 years. The show has been met with critical acclaim and audience passion since it celebrated opening night.

The New York Times reports on the production and its joyful journey to Broadway success.

As the Times writes, "the day after "Hair" opened on March 31 to mostly rave reviews, $500,000 in tickets were sold, and the producers gave investors 10 percent of their money back, a sign of confidence in the show's long-term appeal. In the 12 days since then, tickets have sold at a fast clip, sometimes $250,000 worth in a day. Last week "Hair" grossed $822,889, and now has advance ticket sales of more than $5 million".
