The New York Public Library of Performing Arts Hosts Julie Taymor and Taymor World Theater Fellowship Recipients Image

Join a conversation with visionary director Julie Taymor and the first three recipients of the Julie Taymor World Theater Fellowship on Thursday, March 8th at 6pm at The New York Public Library of Performing Arts in the Bruno Walter Auditorium.

The recipients include Zach Dorn, who traveled to Japan and experienced Karakuri's robotic puppet theater driven by waterwheels in a traditional form over three centuries old. Also, Hector Flores Komatsu sought out the theatrical magic of Mexico's rural and indigenous communities, and Jesca Prudencio explored the "outsider" in Thai folk puppetry, as well as Japan's Noh drama, and Philippine parades and festival.

For this special Library program, the recipients will talk with Julie Taymor and show video clips of their exploits as emerging directors in Japan, Mexico, Thailand, and the Philippines. Seating is limited and tickets for the free event can be reserved at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/taymor-world-theater-fellowship-wrap-up-2018-tickets-42278235340. Thu, March 8, 2018, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM EST. The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, The Bruno Walter Auditorium, 111 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10023.

The founding principal of The Taymor World Theater Fellowship is to provide travel opportunities for enterprising young theater directors to immerse themselves in artistic experiences beyond our borders; thereby, expanding their creative horizons to include previously undiscovered styles and techniques which can best be experienced in direct dialogue and work with creative artists from other cultures. It is our hope that through travel to and dialogue with world theater artists, American fellowship recipients will increase their creative capacity and return to enliven the American theater with new productions fueled by their expanded perspective of world theater in Africa, Central and South America, Asia, and/or the Middle East.
