The New Museum and Rhizome are pleased to announce the artist and technologist pairs anchoring the 2016 edition of its celebrated Seven on Seven conference, an annual event bringing together leaders of art and technology and challenging them to build new projects in creative collaboration. Today, May 14, Rhizome will present Seven on Seven at the New Museum -- founding partner of the event, Rhizome's longtime affiliate, and New York City's leading museum dedicated to contemporary art.

Founded by Rhizome in 2010, Seven on Seven forefronts and animates the leading ideas and issues at the intersection of culture and technology through its novel format. Seven leading artists are paired with seven luminary technologists and asked to make "something": an artwork, a prototype, a provocation-whatever they imagine. What they create in their limited time together premieres at the conference event, yet often ripples beyond that day. The 2016 edition features Seven on Seven's boldest line-up yet; a collection of artists and technologists who bring questions of power and visibility, identity and affect to this flagship program.

Seven on Seven 2016 will feature:

- Filmmaker, artist, and writer Miranda July & Paul Ford, writer and cofounder, Postlight
- Video artist Hito Steyerl & Grant Olney Passmore, cofounder, Aesthetic Integration
- Installation artist Jennifer Steinkamp & Rana el Kaliouby, founder, Affectiva
- Artist and writer Claire L. Evans & Tracy Chou, software engineer, Pinterest
- Rapper Junglepussy & Jenna Wortham, staff writer, New York Times
- Artist Trisha Baga & Mike Woods, founder, White Rabbit VR
- Artist Ingrid Burrington & Meredith Whittaker, founder, Google's Open Source
- and Security Research Group

"When brought into conversation, culture and technology ask rich and vital questions of one another," said Zachary Kaplan, Executive Director of Rhizome. "Seven on Seven endures as the premiere platform for this dialogue due to its distinctive format and track record of significant creations."

"Seven on Seven is one of the most unique and successful cross disciplinary experiments out there," said Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Director of the New Museum. "The collaborations produce profound insights, great dialogue and outstanding new works."

The full event schedule will be announced and tickets to Seven on Seven will go on sale on Thursday April 14 at 10 AM EST. For full bios and event information, visit the event's website at sevenonseven.rhizome.org.

The first Seven on Seven conference took place at the New Museum in April 2010, and featured teams including video artist Ryan Trecartin and Tumblr founder David Karp, who created Riverthe.net together, a dynamic video-sharing application that was later on view as part of the New Museum's exhibition "Free." The 2015 edition paired artist Ai Weiwei and security researcher Jacob Appelbaum, whose collaboration was captured by filmmaker Laura Poitras (CITIZENFOUR) for a short film then premiered by the New York Times. Seven on Seven was founded in 2010 by Lauren Cornell with Fred Benenson, John Borthwick, and Peter Rojas.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016, Rhizome is an art and technology organization based on the internet, and an affiliate organization of the New Museum in New York. It supports contemporary art that create richer and more critical digital cultures, through programs online and off -- including commissions, exhibitions, events, an online journal, and digital preservation efforts which serve its archive of over 2000 born digital artworks.
