The Movement Theatre Company, a Harlem-based non-profit theatre company committed to showcasing emerging artists of color, will host Upscale Uptown, a Cocktail Fundraiser on Monday, May 22nd, 2017 in Harlem.

Since 2007, The Movement Theatre Company has continuously fashioned unexpected connections between multicultural artists, community leaders, and the general public; Upscale Uptown, a Cocktail Fundraiser brings together the emerging artists and established members of the Harlem community. The fundraiser will commemorate their 10th year and honor the contributions of important individuals in the Harlem community.

The Movement Theatre Company will honor three individuals at Upscale Uptown: Carmen Neely, President of Harlem Pride; Christiamilda Correa, Special Events & Individual Giving Coordinator at The Door; and Jonathan McCrory, Director of Theatre Arts Program at The National Black Theatre. Harlem-inspired live music, light fare, and a silent auction will round out the evening.

Theatre professionals, Harlem community members, and many of the company's "Superfans" are expected to attend the event. All proceeds will go to support the development of new work by artists of color. "The arts is the heart and soul of humanity. I am honored to be a founding member who has created a platform for over 300 multicultural artists to express their craft...The Movement Theatre Company launched my career as an entertainment leader and I continue motivating others to invest and support diverse representations in theatre, film, and media," said honoree Christiamilda Correa.

As The Movement prepares for their 3rd large-scale full production this summer, they seek to increase their capital and community outreach. Past successes include their breakout NY Times lauded production of Bintou and their program Harlem Nights, which has featured work by playwrights Dominique Morriseau (Steinberg Playwright Award), Christina Anderson (Aetna New Voices Fellow/Hartford Stage), and Harrison David Rivers (McKnight Fellow), and actors Danielle Brooks (Orange is The New Black, The Color Purple), Xosha Roquemore (The Mindy Project), and Mykal Kilgore (Motown, The Wiz: Live!).
