THE MARGARET PROJECT is pleased to announce the world premiere workshop of MARAGET I, adapted and directed by Elyzabeth Gorman. MARGARET I will play a limited engagement workshop at The Playroom Theater (151 West 46th Street, New York, New York 10036). Performances begin September 7th and continue through September 13th.
Margaret I combines text from Shakespeare's Henry VI tetralogy, his sources, early female writers, and contemporary responses as well as music and movement to explore the role of women in politics, war and sex. Adapter and Director Elyzabeth Gorman says, "Margaret I uses the women of Shakespeare's Henry VI plays to explore how women have historically navigated power and how we navigate it today. We use music and fighting and spectacle, but at its core its about human beings, men and women, protecting those they love and going after what they want."
The workshop stars Rin Allen (Cyrano with Gabriel Barre at Resonance Rep, The Tempest at New York Classical Theatre), Leo Goodman (Pericles at Shakespeare Theatre Co., A Midsummer Night's Dream at National Players), Jordan Laroya (Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, Riverside Shakespeare Festival), Anjili J. Pal ("Girls", Anton in Show Business at Live Arts), Deb Radloff (Caucasian Chalk Circle at CSC, Old Globe), Montgomery Sutton (Twelfth Night at Shakespeare's Globe, A Midsummer Night's Dreamat New York Classical Theatre), Kurt Uy (Oldest Boy at LCT, Be the Death of Me at The Civilians), and Brittany N. Williams (Universal Robots, Bob Marley's Three Little Birds - Helen Hayes Award Nom.)
