A twenty-foot-long magic dragon, a fifteen-foot-tall fairy godmother, and an ensemble of dancers and puppeteers will burst from the stage of Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall as The Little Orchestra Society presents Cinderella and the Prince Who Slays the Magic Dragon on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. This larger-than-life puppet and dance production, designed and created by Manju Shandler, draws from many cultures' versions of the Cinderella tale to create a unique production in a modern setting. Guest conductor James Judd will lead music from Prokofiev's Cinderella, accompanying dances choreographed by Lisa Rinehart (with additional choreography by Roger C. Jeffrey) and large-scale puppets. The "Laideronnette" from Ravel's Mother Goose Suite and the Nocturne and Scherzo from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream round out the program.
Performances are at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall (65th St. and Broadway). Tickets are available for $15 (rear balcony/rear orchestra) through $50 (prime seating) by calling 212/971-9500 or at littleorchestra.org.
Every note and every word of the 2011-2012 season is dedicated to the memory of Dino Anagnost, who led The Little Orchestra Society through 32 seasons of joyful music making.
