The Julia Dean Photo Workshops Announces 2013 Summer Photography Youth Program

The Julia Dean Photo Workshops (JDPW) has announced its 2013 Summer Youth Program featuring several one-week long classes as well as weekend photo excursions. Created for students in middle school and high school, the program is designed to educate and enrich the lives of Los Angeles' city youth. The program begins in early July and runs through the middle of August.

One-week classes are programmed Monday through Friday, 10 am - 1 pm each day, and include topics such as "Basic Digital Photography," "The Special Project," "The Urban Landscape," "Studio and Location Lighting," "Visual Storytelling through Portraiture," "Street Shooting in Los Angeles," "Fashion Fun," "Shooting with 35mm Film SLR Cameras," and "The Art of Photographic Capture."

Weekend classes are programmed Saturday & Sunday, 10 am -1 pm, and feature photo excursions to different parts of Los Angeles and the surrounding communities, such as the Downtown Arts District, Miracle Mile & Farmers Market, Griffith Park & Hollywood and Venice Beach & Santa Monica. Other classes, including "Beginning Photoshop" and "Having Fun with Toy Cameras" are also offered on the weekends.

As an incentive to register early, a special 10% "Early Bird" discount on all class tuition will be available through May 10th.

About Julia Dean:
Julia Dean is a photographer, educator, and the founder of the Julia Dean Photo Workshops. Throughout her career, she has traveled to more than 40 countries while freelancing for numerous relief groups and magazines. She is also the author/photographer of the award-winning children's book, A Year on Monhegan Island. Julia received a Bachelor of Science degree in photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in journalism at the University of Nebraska. She began her career as an apprentice to pioneering photographer Berenice Abbott. Later, Julia was a photo editor for the Associated Press in New York. She has taught over 30 years at such places as the University of Nebraska, Los Angeles Valley College, Los Angeles Southwest College, Santa Monica College, the Santa Fe Workshops, the Maine Photographic Workshops and Oxford University (England). She founded and teaches at The Julia Dean Photo Workshops.
