On Saturday, August 11, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will welcome The Jacksons: Unity Tour 2012 to the Seaside Summer Concert Series at Coney Island, marking the first time that the legendary musical family has played in Brooklyn and the first-ever Saturday night show in the 34-year history of the concerts.

“The Seaside Summer Concert Series is thrilled to bring the Jacksons to Coney Island for their inaugural performance in Brooklyn at a very special Saturday night show—the first in the long history of the concerts,” said BP Markowitz. “The Jacksons’ music spans multiple generations and is known to even the most casual music fan, and we couldn’t be more excited than to have them perform for free at what will surely be one of the biggest nights ever on Coney Island.”

For more than three decades, the Seaside Summer Concert Series has attracted top name classic rock, pop, oldies, contemporary and Latin performers to Coney Island. This summer, shows are again being held at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, next to the home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. A limited number of $5 rental chairs in a specially designated area are available on a first come, first served basis. All shows begin at 7:30pm.

Meanwhile, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert Series is celebrating its spectacular 30th anniversary with a star-studded lineup of classic soul, R&B, contemporary, Caribbean and gospel artists. The free concerts are Monday nights at Wingate Field, with entrances on Brooklyn Avenue between Rutland Road and Winthrop Street. The public is encouraged to bring their own chairs. A limited amount of general seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The program begins at 7:30pm.

For more than twenty years, while he was a state senator, Marty Markowitz worked along with the Seaside Summer Concert Series and the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series to bring some of the best live entertainment to Brooklyn. Now as Brooklyn Borough President, he continues to host the concerts that have entertained hundreds of thousands of residents over the years.
