The Invisible Dog presents The Ant by Xavier Roux Saturday January 23rd - from 6 to 9 pm
"An 18-meter long ant with a hat on its head that doesn't exist, that doesn't exist. ... Hey! Why not?" Robert Desnos, 1900-1945
Artist Xavier Roux was inspired to create the sixty-foot long sculpture based on the poem written by Surrealist Robert Desnos in 1942. This touching piece which weighs over one ton and a half consists of a giant ant symbolizing the trains transporting Jews and other nazi victims to the concentration camps.
In addition, photographs by artist Simon Courchel will be presented to display the creation of The Ant. The pictures "fANTastic" show the month long process construstion of the scultpure made out of steel and balloons, starting with day one and ending with the finished art piece.
And lastly, we are thrilled to welcome an upcoming young talented artist, which you will have the opportunity to discover during the opening. Ian Trask, artist in residency at The Invisible Dog, will present his transformative cardboard installation The Worm which is a new species of detritivore with a voracious appetite and a talent for consuming uban waste.
