The Instigators are back at The Secret Theatre, tackling two very different modern classics: Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen and The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The young company, known for their "striking, no- nonsense portrayal of a classic work" (Theater Pizzazz) will perform the plays in rotating repertory. In Instigators' style, audiences can expect an energetic, contemporary take on two enduringly popular plays.

The Secret Theatre is located just one subway stop from Manhattan at 44-02 23rd Street, LIC.

Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen Adapted & Directed by: Fergus Scully

Cast: Isabel Cade, Mark Couchot, Alice Anne English, Taylor Petracek, Laird Reghenas, Dana Saffran, Jenna Sander

Hedda is an unhappy newlywed. Bored with her new station in life, she can't resist creating catastrophe when the means to do so present themselves. Her desire to control cannot be satisfied until she, herself, becomes the object. Written with an eerie silkiness, this play effortlessly builds to a horrific climax, with plenty of comedy, character development and plot twists along the way.

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde Directed by: Christine Zagrobelny

Cast: Brian Dunlop, Kazuhiro Imafuku, Leslie Marseglia, Kaitlin McKendrick, Jessica Mosher, Fergus Scully, Sarah White, Blake Williams

Both Jack and Algy pretend their names are Ernest. Jack loves Gwendolyn. Algy loves Cecily. Both women love "Ernest." Miss Prism loves Rev. Chasuble-a celibate-and Lady Bracknell doesn't love anything much at all! Confusion ensues and tempers flare in this witty, scandalous farce.

The Instigators are a troupe of dynamic actors who create stories that entertain and provoke audiences by embracing theater's potential as both an art and a sport. Their last production, Golden Boy by Clifford Odets, was also at the Secret Theatre and described by Theater Pizzazz, as a show that "hits all the right notes, and lands with a knockout punch."

Hedda Gabler runs - 6, 12 and 14 October at 7:30pm; 8 and 9 October at 7pm and 16 October at 3pm.

The Importance of Being Earnest Runs - 7, 11 and 13 October at 7:30pm; 15 and 16 October at 7pm and 9 October at 3pm.
