HOUSTON, Jan. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Hunting PLC announced today the names of the three respected members of the national arts community who will serve as jurors for the 2016 Hunting Art Prize in which participants vie for a $50,000 award. The competition offers the largest prize in the category of painting and drawing available in North America.

Members of the jury will select the finalists and then the winner of the competition through a two-tiered jury process that begins in January. The 2016 jurors are:

  • Catherine Behrend, Former Deputy of the New York City Public Art Program, who now serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University's School of Professional Studies diploma program
  • Alex Gregory, Curator of Art at the Amarillo Museum of Art
  • Alexander Rich, Assistant Professor of Art History at Florida Southern College and Director of the Melvin and Burks Art Galleries

The Hunting Art Prize is open to artists throughout Texas who are at least 18 years of age.

Entries are judged through an evaluation of digital files by which jurors select individuals to move on to the second tier. Those chosen as finalists then deliver the physical artwork represented by the digital file submitted during the call for entries phase of the competition. The jurors view this art for final consideration in the selection of the winning work.

The 2016 winner will be announced at the Hunting Art Prize gala on April 30, 2016, in Houston.
