This October, through themed tours, a time-lapse projection, Facebook Live videos, and even food, Friends of the High Line will celebrate moments of transformation in the Woodland Edge-an area on the High Line between Gansevoort and 14th Streets that reflects the culmination of the horticulture team's years of observation, planning, and collaboration with planting designer Piet Oudolf. This month-long series of programming will showcase the heritage, design, plant ecology, and cultural history of the Woodland Edge on the High Line.
The celebration will culminate with a panel about the future of horticulture on November 6 that will feature High Line planting designer Piet Oudolf, author and photographer Rick Darke, and Rebecca McMackin, Director of Horticulture at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Copies of Piet and Rick's new book, Gardens of the High Line: Elevating the Nature of Modern Landscapes will be available for purchase and signing. The panel will be moderated by Friends of the High Line Director of Horticulture Andi Pettis.
Throughout the month, visitors to the High Line can pick up a guide to the Woodland Edge celebration in the park, or visit bit.ly/2x2TTj7 starting October 1 for an online version of the guide. Special signage in the Woodland Edge will also highlight selected vignettes in the landscape chosen by the Friends of the High Line horticulture team.
