The Goonies, the 1985 hit film about ragtag kids on a search for pirate treasure, is in talks for a possible musical adaptation reports Entertainment Weekly. Richard Donner, who directed the film based on a Steven Spielberg story and Chris Columbus screenplay, recently told Ew.com about the idea, 'Steven and I have discussed it, and it's something that I'm fairly passionate about right now."

The film, which starred Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and Anne Ramsey, has been the subject of many talks for a sequel, all of which have fallen through thus far. Now regarded as a cult classic, The Goonies received mixed reviews upon release but became one of the year's highest grossing movies. Other Hollywood films recently to have been adapted into musicals include The Wedding Singer and High Fidelity.
