TADA! Youth Theater will begin its 21st season with the original musical The Gift of Winter. It will begin performances on January 20 and run through February 20 at the TADA! Theater (15 West 28th Street). Each of the main stage productions are TADA! original musicals and are performed by its dedicated Resident Youth Ensemble.
The Gift of Winter is based on the book of the same name by John Leach & Jean Rankin, with music by David Evans (Children's Letters to God, Drama Desk Nom. Birds of Paradise), lyrics by Faye Greenberg (If You Give A Mouse a Cookie) and book by Michael Slade (Novels,Bed of Nails).
"The Gift of Winter is a funny, heart-warming musical that tells the chilling tale of the days before snow, when Winter was a cold, bleak, boring time of year. Fed up with getting the cold shoulder from Winter, a small town decides to revolt in the form an official proclamation demanding and end to Winter. Led by Mayor Maude, the hapless delegation visits Winter himself to discuss the matter, ultimately realizing that compromise and understanding are far more effective than demanding change," state production notes.
The creative team includes: Janine Nina Trevens (director), Joanna Greer (choreographer), Jim Colleran (choreographer), Peter Feuchtwanger (set design), Shelley Norton (costumes) and Jason Livingston (lighting).
