The Deconstructive Theatre Project Presents THE ORPHEUS VARIATIONS, 6/27-30

The Deconstructive Theatre Project presents The Orpheus Variations, conceived by Adam J. Thompson and developed collaboratively among company members. Adam J. Thompson directs cast members Jessica Annunziata, Jen Browne, Stephen Conroy, Amanda Dieli, Sarah Isaacson, Meghan E. Kennedy, Robert Kitchens, and Peter Van Hyning. Five performances will be held at HERE, 145 6th Avenue (1 blocks south of Spring) in NYC from June 27-30, 2013. This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: Co-op, HERE's curated summer rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.

Synopsis
Inspired by the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in the Underworld, The Orpheus Variations tells the story of Orpheus, a grief-stricken musician, who goes on a journey through the sights and sounds of his memories in search of his vanished wife. The project collides live storytelling, live radio play, and live film vocabularies in a deconstruction of creative process.

"The Orpheus Variations uses live sound and live video to explore both the relationships between our experiences and our memories and between creative process and creative product. We create a relationship between the live performance - the construction of things - as the experience, which is messy with things happening all over the place and without grand narrative, and the film as the memory in which all the fragments are pulled together and framed as a cohesive whole. I'm really delighted to share this particular project at HERE, which is world-renowned for supporting visually engaging hybrid performance."

Adam J. Thompson (director) is the Founding Director of The Deconstructive Theatre Project and a creator, director, writer, and producer working at the intersection of live performance, interactive technology, and neuroscience. For The Deconstructive Theatre Project, he has directed Moises Kaufman's Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, created and directed The Girlie Show and Brecht & Co., co-directed Lilies, or the Revival of a Romantic Drama, and co-conceived and directed a contemporary cirque adaptation of Antigone. Adam conceived and directed the world premiere ofThe Orpheus Variations at the Magic Futurebox in 2012, following which documentary footage of the production was installed as a part of Um, Nenhum, e Cem Mil, a visual art exhibition exploring the intersections of art and science at Edge Arts in Lisbon, Portugal. He is the resident stage director of Sarah Small's 125-performer Tableau Vivant of the Delirium Constructions, which he helmed at the 2010 DUMBO Arts Festival, BathHouse Studios, and at Skylight One Hanson. In addition to his work with The Deconstructive Theatre Project, Adam is a member of The Builders Association and collaborates closely with off-Broadway's Working Theater and the PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now festival. Adam holds a BA in directing and dramaturgy from Emerson College in Boston.

Ryan Homsey (composer) is a versatile American composer, equally at home writing for chamber and choral ensembles, theater, and dance. His music has been performed in the US, Italy, and France. His works have been performed by JACK Quartet, PUBLIQuartet, violinist AdriAnna Mateo and baritone Kelvin Chan, among others. Commissions and awards have come from Young New Yorkers' Chorus, NY Children's Aid Chorus, New York City-based choir ActorCor, New Haven Oratorio Choir, Renaissance vocal ensemble Earlybird, and the Minnesota Ballet. His work as a composer/sound designer has been heard in Theater Productions at the Metropolitan Playhouse, Astoria Performing Arts Center, The Deconstructive Theatre Project, Emerging Artists Theatre, BoCoCa Arts Festival, and Vaudeville Park. RYan Lives in New York City and is Lecturer of Music at the Conservatory of Music at the State University of New York (SUNY) Purchase.

The Deconstructive Theatre Project is a seven-year-old not-for-profit ensemble performance laboratory that exists to devise and premiere new multidisciplinary work. The company is dedicated to producing performances that experiment with the relationships between theatrical vocabularies, content, and form, and to providing broad community access to its process and productions. Since 2011, the company has worked primarily at the intersections of performance, neuroscience, and interactive technology. The Deconstructive Theatre Project operates a trio of interrelated programs: devised performances; integrated theatre in education in residence at Williamsburg Collegiate Charter School; and dtpE - The Deconstructive Theatre Project EXPERIENCE, a unique annual series of social and cultural events designed to involve local audiences in the creative and community-building process.
