Recitals to feature a variety of diverse repertoires drawing from the Anglican sacred music tradition and world composers.
The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), presents Sunday afternoon organ recitals under the direction of Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music and Organist.
With a variety of diverse repertoires drawing from the Anglican sacred music tradition and world composers, these post-Evensong recitals provide a culturally rich musical offering inside the Cathedral's Gothic interior. Beginning in October, audiences will also have the opportunity to take in glorious organ music within the setting of Divine Pathways, a site-specific textile art installation by Anne Patterson.
The recital series kicks off on September 10 with an evening exploring South African organ music with visiting performer Theo van Wyk, Associate Professor of Music, University of Pretoria. Upcoming recitals include performances by the Cathedral's own Daniel Ficarri, Associate Director of Music and Organist; Artist in Residence David Briggs; and both established and up-and-coming organ stars from around the United States and across the globe.
The Cathedral's 5 pm Sunday organ recitals are presented free to the public. Visit the Cathedral's website for more information about concerts and recitals throughout 2023 and 2024.

Over one hundred years ago, the trustees of the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine conceived its mission to be a house of prayer for all people, an instrument of church unity, and a center of intellectual light and leading in the spirit of Jesus Christ.
Today, as the mother church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York and the seat of its bishop, the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine serves the many diverse people of our diocese, city, nation and world through the worship of God; pastoral, educational and community outreach activities; cultural and civic events; international ecumenical initiatives; and the preservation of the great architectural and historic site that is its legacy.
