According to Forbes, The Broadway League has announced that Disney's theatrical president, Thomas Schumacher will be the next chairman.
The committee unanimously selected Schumacher, who is expected to begin leading the national trade associations after its annual meeting in December 2017.
According to the article, Schumacher said, "It is a brilliant idea from the League to give leadership a long ramp-up period...Until then I'm going to do my job studying and observing."
Schumacher is already responsible for much of Disney's theatrical success over the last two decades. According to Forbes, the revenues at his division have more than doubled, and the first stage adaptation that he developed, The Lion King, is now the highest-grossing entertainment property of all-time.
Disney did not join the Broadway League until 2013, and it has still not fully assimilated with the other commercial theatre firms. According to Forbes, Disney negotiates its own-collective bargaining agreements with the 14 different labor unions operating on Broadway, and distributes its own show programs without liquor or tobacco advertisements at its New Amsterdam Theatre.
