This summer, the BEA (Brazilian Endowment for the Arts) is inaugurating an exciting new concert series entitled Music and Música, a riveting union of Brazilian and American musical cultures. Designed to tip the hat to the long-term musical engagement between these two countries with evermore possibilities to continue thriving and growing, this series celebrates traditional styles as well as new works for the 21st century.

Music and Música presents diverse artistry from works by Brazilian composers, Arthur Kampela, Raimundo Penaforte, Heitor Villa-Lobos and João Pernambuco; American composers, Jonathan Dawe and Donald Hagar; musicians from traditional Brazilian art forms such as flutist Celina Charlier and percussionist Bill Bowen (choro), Billy Newman's Brazilian Acoustic Ensemble (Brazilian rhythms), João MacDowell Trio (New MPB) and Brazilian saxophonist, Rita Ferreira, with her quartet (bossa nova and jazz) to American originals such as The Brotherhood of the Jug Band Blues, guitar virtuoso William Anderson and emerging artist Royce Lopez.
