The Blue Note will officially launch The Emerging Artist Series on Wednesday, April 14, presented by Brother Thelonious of North Coast Brewing Company. The series is a unique opportunity for students currently enrolled in college and university jazz programs to open for our major performers on Wednesday evenings, bridging the gap between aspiring young jazz musicians and the world-famous artists that perform at the Blue Note for six nights out of the week. The young musicians are encouraged to develop their own projects and can apply for an opening act slot at www.bluenote.net/opening. Doug Moody, Senior VP of North Coast Brewing Company, stated, "Helping in providing an opportunity for talented young jazz artists to perform at the legendary Blue Note is the perfect way to continue our ever expanding commitment to jazz education." Featured in the first month of the series will be saxophonist Adam Larson, guitarist Javier Rosario, vocalist/bassist Kate Davis, pianist Julian Pollack, and pianist Pascal Le Boeuf. Opening acts will go from 6:30 - 7:30pm, followed by the main performer's first set at 8:00pm.

The ticket price to the main performance will provide access to both the opening act and the main show.

ABOUT THE BLUE NOTE EMERGING ARTIST SERIES:

Since its inception in 1981, the Blue Note has been considered one of the premier jazz clubs in the world and a cultural institution in Greenwich Village. While the Blue Note is committed to providing a home for the best jazz musicians of today, the club has a vested interest in the development of the young jazz musicians of tomorrow. It is with this in mind that we present the Emerging Artist Series at the Blue Note.

The Blue Note will offer young musicians currently studying in jazz programs throughout the country a chance to play a set at the Blue Note jazz club as an opening act for some of our major performers. We believe the series could help bridge the gap between aspiring young jazz musicians studying in New York and the world-renowned artists that perform at the Blue Note for six nights out of the week. A performance at the Blue Note offers the kind of exposure that could propel a student's career and help develop an audience.

The Emerging Artist Series would also provide students with vital real-world experience, from putting a band together and recording music to dealing with talent buyers and working to market and promote the show. We would like the musicians to develop their own projects to be considered by our talent buyers for an opening act slot. With the support of our main performers, we intend to book at least one student act per Wednesday night. Brother Thelonious, a division of North Coast Brewing Company, has agreed to sponsor the series so the students can get compensated for their work.

Students can fill out the full application at www.bluenote.net/opening.
