Urban Stages is pleased to announce a special post-holiday sale for their latest family show, The Blue Bird. Beginning on Friday, December 28, all seats will be $30. Performances are at 259 West 30th Street (between 7th and 8th) and will continue through Sunday, January 13th.
"A mysterious visitor on Christmas Eve leads a materialistic city girl named Martha on a fantastical journey in search of the "blue bird of happiness" in this modern multimedia musical extravaganza inspired by Maurice Maeterlinck's classic. Armed with a demystifying magic hat that reveals the "true nature" of things and accompanied by her household pets, Martha's journey of exploration combines Maeterlinck's symbolism with the more contemporary story of a girl dealing with the loss of her father," explain press notes.
Urban Stages is happy to announce that this production features innovative scenic design by world famous Russian artist Andrey Bartenev. Bartenev's futuristic design marks the Urban Stages premiere as a theatrical and fine arts event—his consistent effort to push the limits in terms of spectacle and design and his international prestige is housed in every stage craft decision in this unique production.
The creative team at Urban Stages is elated at the opportunity to share their joy in working with such an artistic force with their theater audience. It is the ultimate holiday present to bestow on its patrons. Bartenev combines video art with original costume and set design making this historic production of Blue Bird something not to miss. Mr. Bartenev utilizes the whole theatre and the lobby as his palette. Urban Stages is proud to sponsor such an international meeting of aesthetic talents and minds. Music for this production by composer Colm Clark and rounding out the design team are Alex Koch (video), Josh Bradford (lighting), and David Thomas (sound). Heath Cullens will direct. Urban Stages is the recipient of a special grant from TCG for this production.
The cast features Ronit Aranoff, Drew Battles, Diana Buirski, Jenny Gammello, Francis Mateo, and Maureen Silliman.
Tickets will be $30.00 for the remainder of the run, or $25 per ticket for a Family Pack of four tickets or more. Tickets may be purchased by calling Smarttix at 212-868-4444, or online at www.urbanstages.org.
