The Beatnik Café: Musical Revue of the Jazz Beat Generation is scheduled to perform on June 20th at 7:30 pm. Beatnik Café will play at the 80 seat Richmond Shepard Theater (309 E 26th St. at 2nd Ave). Tickets are $25 and include one drink.
The Beatnik Café, a musical revue of the Jazz Beat Generation made its NYC premier on April 11th to a sold out audience. It is a high-energy musical revue which features the music of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Cannonball Adderley, and other prominent musicians from the mid l940's through the early sixties. It is a journey through the Bebop to the Beatnik era; songs include Twisted, Yip Rock, and the scathing social commentary of Nina Simone's Mississippi Goddamn.
It features Shelia Jordan (http://www.sheilajordanjazz.com), Lillie Bryant Howard (http://www.myspace.com/lilliebryanthoward), and Richmond Shepard. They will be musically backed up by Chris Sullivan (http://www.myspace.com/christopherdeansullivan), Andrew Bemkey (http://andrewbemkey.com/), Michaetl T.A.Thompson, and Allen Won (http://www.allenwon.com). Maggie Kus and Kat Gang are the other featured jazz vocalists. Jake Lewis and Namaya (http://www.thejazzpoet.com/) also take part in the event.
