The Art Song Preservation Society Presents Inaugural Vocal Competition, 3/31

The Art Song Preservation Society of New York, Inc (ASPS) will hold its first ever vocal arts competition on March 31, at 1 pm at the AbiGail Adams Auditorium, The Colonial Dames of America (417-421 East 61st St.). Judging the competition are some of the Art Song Preservation Society's illustrious Advisory Board Members, Corradina Caporello (The Juilliard School), Thomas Grubb (The Juilliard School) and Thomas Muraco (The Manhattan School of Music).The winner will receive coachings, rehearsals and career advisement that will result in a future solo recital with The Art Song Preservation Society.  

The finalists include soprano Jacquelyn Familant, soprano Stefanie Izzo, mezzo-soprano Silvie Jensen, baritone Malcolm Merriweather, soprano Winnie Nip, soprano Tami Petty, mezzo-soprano
Rosalie Sullivan, and baritone Michael Weyandt.

The ASPS is a nonprofit organization comprised of a vibrant group of singers, piano accompanists and art song enthusiasts who are dedicated to preserving this exceptional area of vocal literature and enriching the New York classical music environment. ASPS focuses on exploring the unique union between artist, musician, and poet by offering monthly workshops, educational lectures, a master class series, and concert performance opportunities. Recent master class events have featured distinguished guest artists such as Dalton Baldwin, Corradina Caporello, Thomas Grubb, and Thomas Muraco. The art song company recently collaborated with the September Foundation, performing American Art Songs for a full house at the Liederkranz Foundation Ballroom on September 10, 2011.
