Montblanc presents The 24 Hour Company Production of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway on Monday, October 22 at the American Airlines Theatre. Proceeds benefit Working Playground, an organization that brings arts education into New York City classrooms.
This year's company members include actors Elizabeth Berkley, Billy Crudup, David Cross, Rachel Dratch, Michael Ealy, Mamie Gummer, Matthew Lillard, Anthony Mackie, Janel Maloney, Rosie Perez, Fisher Stevens, Julia Stiles, Lili Taylor, Marlo Thomas and Kerry Washington.
Playwrights include David Lindsay-Abaire (2007 Pulitzer Prize Winner), Julia Jordan (Tatjana in Color), Warren Leight (1999 Tony Award Winner) and Theresa Rebeck (2004 Pulitzer Prize Finalist); and directors Christian Parker (Atlantic Theater Company) and Ari Edelson (The Orchard Project); and musical guest Nellie McKay (Three Penny Opera).
The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway is an annual benefit event for Working Playground at which entertainment's biggest names join forces to participate in an annual rite of extreme live performance: they will write, direct and perform six original short plays…all in just 24 hours!
The creative process of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway will begins at 10PM on Sunday, October 21st – the night before the show – when a group of six writers, six directors, 24 actors, one musical guest and production staff gather at the American Airlines Theater.
After everyone has been briefed, each writer will stay up all night to compose a ten-minute play. At 7AM on Monday, October 22, the directors will return, read the plays, and choose their plays to direct. The casts will meet for the first time at 8:30AM and quickly get to work rehearsing. Tech rehearsal will run from 5PM to 7:30PM and doors will open at 7:45PM. At 8PM, ink barely dry, the 6 new plays, interspersed with 6 musical acts, will be performed for a live audience.
The The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway are performed on Monday, October 22 at the American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42nd Street). Tickets are available at www.SmartTix.com, call 212-868-4444. Visit www.24hourplays.com for more information.
