The 23rd Annual HOT!, NYC Celebration of Queer Culture to Play Dixon Place, 7/5-8/2

Dixon Place (Ellie Covan, Artistic Director) presents the 23rd Annual HOT!, the NYC Celebration of Queer Culture. The world's longest-running LGBTQ Performance Festival, HOT! offers theater, music, dance, puppetry, performance art and homoeroticism for the whole family! HOT! is the pioneering festival of queer performance and culture - and the oldest annual festival of its kind in the world. Dixon Place is proud the HOT! serves as the model for other queer festivals across the globe and has become a performance destination for emerging talent in the LGBTQ community. This year's HOT!, featuring hundreds of participating artists presenting their newest creations, will run July 5th through August 2nd at Dixon Place, located at 161A Chrystie Street in New York City. David Mramor is Enid Ellen, a channeler of Mother Nature. With dreaded hair and hooker boots, she was brought to the Earth by way of a beached whale. Baptized and named from a seagull, she travels the universe with her pianist, Greg Potter, to spread the word of NATURE. This is her creation story.
David Mramor has performed poetry-inspired words set to piano melodies with collaborator Greg Potter across NYC at Joe's Pub, the Kitchen, and Pussy Faggot. The team also released their debut album "Cannibal Disease" with a music video for "White Snake" in 2010.

Nora Burns is a founding member of the comedy groups Unitard and the Nellie Olesons. She has also performed at the Aspen Comedy Festival, Just for Laughs in Montreal and We're Funny That Way in Toronto. She has performed her solo show, Honey, I'm Home at Dixon Place, Stonewall Inn in NYC and Casita del Campo in LA. Her slender celluloid bio includes excruciatingly minor appearances in films like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and Broken Hearts Club. Television appearances include "The Sandra Bernhard Experience" and Logo's "Wisecrack Comedy Show."

Breton Tyner-Bryan is an American Born Dancer, Choreographer, Actress, and Photographer. She holds a BFA in Ballet Performance from the University of Utah, and received her training at the School of the Hartford Ballet. Breton teaches regularly at Peridance, Broadway Dance Center, Mark Morris Dance, NYU Tisch Dance Dept, and Google while performing in her own choreographic works and film collaborations. Breton has been featured in Pointe Magazine, Huffington Post, New York Times, Broadway World, and Dance Informa magazine. As a photographer her work has appeared regularly in the San Francisco Chronicle, Bay Area Guardian, and San Jose Mercury News. Inspired by artists like Josephine Baker, Louis Armstrong, and Hughie Lee Smith, the artist creates a live collage that sheds light on the trite instinct of human nature to simplify identity.
Carisa Bledsoe's work has been installed and performed in places like Links Hall, the Heidelberg Project, the Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival, and the CUNY Grad Center. Danielle Abrams has performed for over 20 years at a wide range of spaces including Detroit Institute of the Arts, The Jewish Museum, The Queens Museum, WOW Performance Café, The Kitchen, and at Annie Sprinkle's and Beth Stephens' Green Wedding. Past performances include "Quadroon" in which she performed as a Jewish bubbie, black grandmother, butch dyke who runs a meal plan service, and biracial teenager who "passes" as Greek; "Routine", in which she cleansed Catskill's comedy of its racist legacy by bathing in a tub of borscht; and "After Before the Revolution", in which she recasts Eleanor Antin(ova)'s rebellion with members of the Black Panther party. Michael Cross Burke is a NYC-based queer performance artist, dancer, professor and husband. Burke had the honor of playing the title character in Vortex by legendary filmmaker Mike Kuchar. He has appeared as himself on MTV News and the documentary "This is who I am." Michael Cross Burke is the Director of the Trinity/La MaMa Performing Arts Program in NYC and been a Professor in the Theater & Dance Department at Trinity College since 2001. Melissa Gordon is a performer, creator, funny lady, and teaching artist in New York City. She performs musical improv, sketch, characters, and music all around town. A follow-up to AnimalParts' 'avant-garde autobiography' Tenderpits -- Revenge of the Popinjay is an experimental rap-horror show in which Anthony struggles to cope with the loss of his sister while uncovering a frightening link between himself, his lover, and an elusive gay rap star/serial killer targeting heterosexuals.
Revenge of the Popinjay combines storytelling, stand-up, physical theatre, performance art and original live rap music to create a one-of-a-kind theatrical event. Popinjay satirizes the clichés of homophobic culture and questions the capacity for evil in all of us.

Artistic Director Faux Pas le Fae is a Dancer, Choreographer, and Transgender Performance Artist. Faux plays the role of tour guide weaving the viewer through an array of petit ballets which explore feminism, trans issues, abuse primal sensuality. The show features Faux's Les Sylphides in which the Sylph is the manhandled rape victim of a patriarchal kingdom. Other highlights are a new Le Spectre de la Rose with an original dance film by Juliet Jeske and a cast of intoxicated ball goers which lose all inhibition.
Arrie Davidson/Faux Pas le Fae is Co-founder/Artistic Director of KineticArchitecture and has studied on scholarship at The Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet and Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago. Clueless is a dark comedy pushing a gay man's buttons, to help secure and justify another person's homophobia. Introducing: Billy O'Kiernan, a young sensitive fun loving quirky gay man; and Mario, married to Rhonda who happens to be Billy's best friend. What takes place in Clueless peels away Billy's view of his friend's marriage. Clueless introduces a common occurrence in a "straight" world that pushes boundaries, forcing a straight man and a gay man to battle for a sense of integrity and self-worth.
Vincent Caruso's book "The Space," is based on his first full length play which premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival. His two other full length plays, Countdown, and Leftovers, was presented at the Midtown International Theater Festival. His other work has been performed at the LGBT center, the Wings Theater, the Samuel French Short Playwriting Festival, Brooklyn Cable Access Television, the Duplex Cabaret, and Dixon's Place 2012 Hot Festival. Vincent is a graduate of William Esper Studios, having studied with Maggie Flanigan.

Inspired by Dante's Paradiso and Plato's Cave, Ombra is a multimedia dance performance embedded within a dance party. Drawing in part from a hypnotic, Butoh-inspired physicality, the dance performance emerges as episodic dreamscapes within a clubbing experience and a live cabaret. Sound artist Michael Feld orchestrates an eclectic sound score that moves between live percussion, electronic sound art, and 90s dance hits. Ombra asserts that liberation is created, not revealed. With humor, Ombra (Italian for "shadow") is a piece that hopes to offer a re-evaluation of the dark, and it seeks to relocate the site of true human ascendance within the shadows and the shadows we make.

Told through intimate interviews with real-life characters in New York's West Village, this piece compares and contrasts LGBT histories with contemporary voices. Examining events including the Stonewall riots and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the work explores the history of the LGBT movement as well as its modern day relevance. Inspired by the 2013 murder of Mark Carson in the West Village, this work seeks to uncover the stories of people living in the New York LGBT community. These interviews bring to life an unknown world . . . These are stories of hope and triumph in the face of overwhelming odds.
Frack Theatre is a New York theatre company founded on the principle of utilizing theatre as a means of community empowerment: the storytelling process becomes empowering both in the interview process and, in performance, legitimizes marginalized narratives. J.Stephen Brantley received the Micheál MacLiammóir Award for Best Actor at the 2013 International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival and a 2013 NYIT Award nomination. Morgan Bassichis is a writer and performer living in Brooklyn by way of San Francisco. Morgan's play, THE WITCH HOUSE, premiered at The Garage in January 2013. Morgan has performed at the MIX Festival, Recess, and The Wild Project.

Puppet BloK! Is Dixon Place's series of ground-breaking new works of puppetry, animation, music, film & other innovative forms of storytelling, curated by Leslie Strongwater.
This special HOT! Edition of Puppet BloK! will feature new work by Randy Ginsburg (The 1,001 Tails of Boris, the Peacock), Elliott Jenetopulos, and Lindsay Abromaitis-Smith.
Dixon Place, an incubator for performing and literary artists since 1986, is a non-profit organization committed to supporting the creative process by presenting original works of dance, theater, music, puppetry, literature, performance and visual art at all stages of development. Presenting over 700 artists each year, this local haven inspires and encourages diverse artists of all stripes and callings to take risks and push personal and professional limits. Dixon Place's foremost priorities are to serve as a safety net for artists, and to provide vivid experiences for audiences. Many artists, such as Deb Margolin, Blue Man Group, John Leguizamo, Lisa Kron, David Cale, Penny Arcade, and Reno began their careers at Dixon Place. In addition to emerging artists, Dixon Place has also been privileged to present evenings of new and experimental work by more established artists, such as -- Theater/Performance: Justin Vivian Bond, Taylor Mac, Lily Tomlin, Wallace Shawn, Craig Lucas, BD Wong, John Fleck, Kate Bornstein, Ethyl Eichelberger, Holly Hughes, Karen Finley, Kate Clinton, Peggy Shaw, Alan Cumming, Big Art Group; Literary: A.M. Homes, Rick Moody, and Oscar Huelos; Dance: Mark Dendy, Jane Comfort, Douglas Dunn, and Yoshiko Chuma; Music: Vernon Reid, Rodney Crowell, Diamanda Galas, Martha Wainwright, Loudon Wainwright, Lucy Wainwright Roche, Suzzy Roche, Maggie Roche, Rodney Crowell, Cyndi Lauper, and They Might Be Giants.
In 1989, Ellie Covan, founding director, was a recipient of a Bessie, a New York Dance and Performance Award, for her service to the community; and Dixon Place received a Village Voice Obie Grant Award in 1990 and 1999. Additionally, in 1999, Dixon Place was awarded an Edwin Booth Award for Excellence in Theater.
