Week 26 of the current Broadway season, which ended on November 27, was the highest grossing Thanksgiving week and the third highest grossing week ever in recorded history, according to The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. Broadway paid attendance for the week was the fourth highest Thanksgiving week in recorded history.
Grosses for the week ending November 27 (Week 26) were $20,812,275, up from last year's Week 26 gross of $17,365,000, an impressive 20% increase. Paid Attendance for the week jumped to 259,948, from 242,173 for the same week last season (up 7.3%). Capacity for the week was 83.18%, compared to 79.6% for the same week last year, with one-third of currently running shows playing at 90% capacity or more.
"The beginning of the holiday season, beginning with Thanksgiving week, is always a time of great excitement for the Broadway theatre, and we are delighted that this week was record-setting," said Jed Bernstein, President, The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc.
The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. reported a gross of $769 million and 11.5 million in paid attendance for the 2004-5 season, the 2nd highest grossing season in recorded history, and the 4th highest for paid attendance.
