Taye Diggs Lands Starring Role in New ABC Thriller Drama Pilot DOOMSDAY

Deadline reports that Taye Diggs will star alongside Jack Davenport, Rachelle Lefevre and Dan Byrd in ABC's thriller drama pilot DOOMSDAY, from producer Carol Mendelsohn and Sony TV. The actor can currently be seen on the hit FOX series EMPIRE.

Written by Mark Bianculli and VJ Boyd and helmed by Joachim Ronning, Doomsday is set in the aftermath of 9/11. According to the site, "When the U.S. government institutes a secret think tank featuring the most creative minds in Science and entertainment that is tasked with dreaming up man-made disaster scenarios and their possible solutions. Because the hypothetical ideas are deemed extremely dangerous, the list is sealed and the program shut down. But when a catastrophe occurs that's ripped from the pages of the missing doomsday book, the team is brought back years later to prevent the disasters of their own making."

Diggs portray handsome and confident Dr. Davis, described as "an engineer and architect, formerly the youngest-ever head of disaster prevention for FEMA. Fastidious, with expensive taste in clothes, he enjoys the finer things in life and is habitually well-dressed and not fond of forays into the field. A former member of the Doomsday Project think tank, he, too is summoned by Homeland Security when there is an imminent attack pending on U.S. soil."

In 2015, Taye Diggs returned to Broadway in title role of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. The appearance marked his first New York stage role since the 2005 revival of A Soldier's Play. He made his Broadway debut in 1994 in the Tony Award-winning revival ofCarousel. Soon after, he landed the role of Benny in in the landmark musicalRent, a role he recreated in the 2005 film version. Diggs other New York stage credits include Chicago, Wicked, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party. His many film and television credits include Steven Bochco's crime drama "Murder in the First," How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Go, Chicago,The Best Man, its follow up The Best Man Holiday, and six seasons on ABC's hit drama "Private Practice."
