The original cast recording of Tarzan, The Broadway Musical, has entered the Billboard Cast Album Chart at #3 this week. The album was released on June 27 by Walt Disney Records and is available now in retail stores nationwide as well as on iTunes.
Tarzan features music and lyrics by Academy Award- and seven-time Grammy Award winner
Phil Collins, who made his Broadway composing debut with this production. The score includes the five songs Collins wrote for Disney's 1999 animated film
, Tarzan ("Two Worlds," "Son of Man," "Trashin' the Camp," "Strangers Like Me" and the Academy Award-winning "You'll Be In My Heart"), as well as new songs that Collins has written for the Broadway musical, including "Who Better Than Me," "For the First Time," "Everything That I Am," "Waiting for This Moment," "No Other Way," "I Need to Know," "Sure as Sun Turns to Moon," "Different" and "Like No Man I've Ever Seen."
The Grammy and Tony Award-winning music team behind
Tarzan includes Paul Bogaev (music producer/vocal arrangements),
Doug Besterman (orchestrations) and Jim Abbott (music director/dance arrangements). The cast recording also includes a special color booklet that features production images from that show. The recording is produced by
Phil Collins, Frank Filipetti, Paul Bogaev and Chris Montan.
In addition to the eighteen tracks performed by the original Broadway cast, the original cast recording of
Tarzan features a bonus track of "Everything That I Am" performed by
Phil Collins. The bonus track is produced by Marius de Vries.
Tarzan stars Josh Strickland as Tarzan, Jenn Gambatese as Jane, Merle Dandridge as Kala, Shuler Hensley as Kerchak, Chester Gregory II as Terk, Timothy Jerome as Professor Porter and Donnie Keshawarz as Clayton. Daniel Manche and Alex Rutherford alternate in the role of Young Tarzan.Three-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (Aida, Carousel, The History Boys), directs and designs scenery and costumes for Tarzan. Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) has written the book, based on the story, Tarzan of the Apes, by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and the film, Tarzan. Choreography is by Meryl Tankard, with aerial design by Pichón Baldinu (De La Guarda). Lighting design is by Tony Award-winner Natasha Katz (Aida) and sound design is by John Shivers.
