TMT returns to Brooklyn with their annual Target Margin Laboratory presented by The Bushwick Starr and curated by TMT Managing Director John Del Gaudio and Associate Artist
Kate Marvin, at The Bushwick Starr (207 Starr Street, Brooklyn) in March/April 2012. The early twentieth century gave birth to the first greatest wave of experimentation in the arts, and TMT always look to its rebellious ancestors for inspiration. The TMT Lab will be an adventure in roots, reinvention, and rebirth, and will feature the talents of over 100 artists. If you think you know Mayakovsky, look again. If you don't know Danil Kharms, it's time to wake up and smell the (unscented) vodka.
Memory, longing, and pratfalls: it's Uncle Vanya of course! In Spring 2012, TMT will take you back to one of the greatest classics of Russian drama-hell, of world drama- the
Anton Chekhov classic , Uncle Vanya directed by TMT Artistic Director
David Herskovits. Chekhov still shocks us and he's an ideal partner for TMT's experiments. Think you know Uncle Vanya? Look again. The company returns to HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, enter on Dominick Street one block south of Spring) in April/May 2012.
TMT's Russian season leads on to the Soviet Jewish theater. The company is cooking up the germ for their next big project. Listen! will be a company-created show about the history of Yiddish theater and the avant-garde. It all begins with Artistic Director
David Herskovits' fellowship to the American Academy in Jerusalem this fall/winter. Prepare for sneak previews of this new piece later in the season.
In announcing the 2011-2012 season, Artistic Director
David Herskovits had this to say, "In our new season Target Margin returns to a classic with a difference. Our Uncle Vanya will combine fearless experimentation with fundamental craft." He went on to add, "In recent years we have deepened the support for our Lab and can't wait to explore the Russian avant-garde with tons of artists whose work you may not be familiar with yet. But you will be - and you'll be as excited as we are. We are also thrilled to be returning to our friends at The Bushwick Starr and HERE."
TMT's programming is made possible through major support from Axe-Houghton Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Clinton-Walker Family Foundation, The Fan Fox & Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, Fred Alger Management, Inc., The Fund for Small Theatres, a project of Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York), The Harold & Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, The New York Community Trust/Lila Acheson Wallace Fund for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and The Shubert Foundation.
Uncle Vanya is a part of HEREstay, HERE's curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.
