Stage veteran Tamara Tunie, who currently stars as Dr. Melinda Warner on the hit television series "Law and Order: SVU"  on NBC and as District Attorney Jessica Griffin on the daytime television series "As The World Turns" on CBS, has joined the producing team of the acclaimed new musical Spring Awakening.

Spring Awakening features an acclaimed score by Duncan Sheik and Steve Sater.  The show is directed by Michael Mayer with choreography by award winner Bill T. Jones.  Starring Stephen Bogardus, Christine Estabrook, Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and others, the production will feature costumes by Tony Award Winner Susan Hilferty, set design by Christine Jones, and lighting by Kevin Adams.

Spring Awakening will begin previews on Thursday, November 16th at 8 p.m. at the Eugene O'Neill Theater (230 West 49th Street). Opening night is set for Sunday, December 10th at 6:30 pm.

"It has been my great privilege to perform on the American stage, the Broadway stage. And now, as I take on this new 'role,' my excitement is palpable!  I can't wait to share my belief in the power of this show, the power of the musical theatre art form to move and inspire, with the rest of the world!" said Tunie.

Spring Awakening is produced by Ira Pittleman, Tom Hulce, Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel.

Last spring Tunie returned to the theater world in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington. Immediately following, she starred as Madame de Merteuil in Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, where she also starred in Antony and Cleopatra and Tartuffe.  She has shared the stage with Lena Horne in the Broadway musical Lena Horne:  The Lady and Her Music and starred in David Merrick's revival of Oh Kay! with Brian Stokes Mitchell.  Other theatre credits include Bubblin' Brown Sugar, Troilus and Cressida, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and the Actors' Fund concert of Dreamgirls.
