Double Play Connections and Meredith Lucio are pleased to announce that the world premiere production of Take Me America, by Bill Nabel (book and lyrics) and Bob Christianson (music), garnered 3 awards from the Midtown International Theater Festival's 1st ever Best of Fest Awards!  The musical, about asylum in America, was inspired by the P.O.V. documentary Well-Founded Fear.  Take Me America played to sold-out audiences at the WorkShop Theatre (312 West 36th Street, 4th Fl.) July 16th through August 3rd.

Outstanding Overall Production of a New Musical
Outstanding Overall Actress in a Musical: Jan Leslie Harding (Martha Louise)
Outstanding Overall Actor in a Musical: Eric Chan (Huang)

Also nominated were: Outstanding Music & Lyrics: Bill Nabel & Bob Christianson; Outstanding Overall Actress in a Musical: Ana Maria Andricain (Gladys)

Take Me America follows nine refugees in their quest for asylum in the US and the three INS agents who decide their fate.  Do they stay or do they go? How would you decide?  Get it wrong and you might as well sentence them to death.... or worse.   Inspired by true stories from the asylum process; stories of life and death.  They are real, sometimes humorous, but always compelling.  www.TakeMeAmerica.com
