As reported on BroadwayWorld, the theatre community was shocked to learn that Tony Award winning playwright David Henry Hwang was slashed in the neck Sunday night, November 29th, in what was apparently a random attack near his home in Brooklyn.
After being released from Brooklyn Hospital and Mount Sinai, the playwright recently took to Twitter to thank friends and fans for their outpouring of support after the incident.
Thanks for your outpouring of support! Doing fine - no pain, just a little tired - after Sun's random attack and expect a full recovery.

According to police, Hwang was making his way home on South Oxford Avenue near Lafayette Avenue in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn when an unknown attacker slashed his neck from behind at approximately 8:50pm.
Currently a professor at Columbia University, Hwang burst onto the New York theatre scene with his premiere Broadway play, M. BUTTERFLY, which earned him a 1998 Best Play Tony Award and was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize For Drama. His other Pulitzer finalist play was YELLOW FACE in 2008. He was last represented on Broadway with CHINGLISH in 2011.
