Master ventriloquist and Queen's resident April Brucker is teaching a one day workshop at QED Astoria, the arts space and comedy venue owned by award winning storyteller, writer, and producer Kambri Crews.
April Brucker who has been a ventriloquist since age 13, is a 12 year veteran of the New York Stand Up Comedy Scene. Touring for nearly the last decade, Brucker has appeared on stages throughout the East Coast, Canada, the Midwest, and Las Vegas. Also a trained actor, Brucker holds a BFA from NYU Tisch, having trained at Lee Strasberg Institute and Stonestreet Studios.
April and her 19 puppet children not only tour regularly, but they have appeared on television around the world. The Brucker puppet's family's partial list of television credits include but are not limited to My Strange Addiction, Rachael Ray, Talk Soup, Last Comic Standing 5, Layover with Anthony Bourdain, and What Would You Do?.
Internationally, April and Family have appeared on Telemundo, Italian National Television, Dutch National Television, Slovakian National Television, BBC, Love TV in Finland, and MTV Europe.
Also a skilled hand and rod puppeteer, April Brucker was head puppeteer for the short film The Break Up, which was nominated for an HBO Project Greenlight Greenie Award.
Most recently, April Brucker has hit the campaign trail with puppet presidential puppet Donald J. Tramp. Mr. Tramp, who was the spokespuppet for Stand Together Against Trump, helped lead the largest anti-Trump protest at the Republican National Convention. The Brucker/Tramp duo was featured in VICE, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Yahoo Style, Bustle and The Wrap.
Additionally, Brucker and her orange quaffed companion were also credentialed press at the 3rd and final presidential debate with the Pulitzer Prize nominated Clyde Fitch Report. Her one woman show, The Lady and President Tramp, premiered on Restaurant Row. A retrospective, it tells of Brucker's election adventures featuring not only Donald J. Tramp but other members of Brucker's collection including May Wilson, Hillary Clifton, Sonny Jones, Ruby Chappeau, Shanniqua Parker, and Kimmy Simon. Future plans include touring with the show.
Brucker is teaching two sessions of the masterclass, one for adults and one for children. The adult class takes place on Sunday March 26 from 2-4 PM. The class for children takes place on Thursday April 13 from 2:30-4 PM. Class charge is $45.
