Deadline reports that actor Owiso Odera, perhaps best known for his role on The CW's THE ORIGINALS, collapsed and died onstage on Thursday, November 3rd while rehearsing a new play in Louisville, KY. His brother Peter confirmed the report to a Kenyan newspaper called The Standard. Odera was 43.
According to the report, the actor was rehearsing for a new play titled DETROIT '67 when he collapsed onstage. First responders were immediately called in but were not able to resuscitate him. No details on the cause of death have been revealed.
Actors Theatre, which was producing the play that was set to open next week, announced this week that the production has been canceled. Les Waters and Kevin E. Moore of Actors Theatre said in a statement, "Owiso was an accomplished and talented actor with an impressive list of theatre, television and film credits, However, he was much more than just a colleague. Owiso was a dear friend to many and will be immensely missed by the performing arts communities all across the country."
Along with The Originals, Dirt and Three Rivers, Odera has guest starred on such TV shows as Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, The Millers,
BLUE BLOODS and NCIS: Los Angeles.
