TOKYO TO NEW YORK to Continue Bargemusic Here and Now Series This Fall

The September 30th "Tokyo to New York" concert, part of Bargemusic's Here and Now Series, features music composed for Western classical instruments as well as traditional Japanese instruments.

The exciting and varied concert includes world premiers by Japanese composers Masatora Goya and Kazutomo Yamamoto, the United States premier of a work by Bin Li, and other music by John Cage, Hidemi Mikai, and Chatori Shimizu.

Clarinetist and hichiriki player Thomas Piercy will be joined by hichiriki players Hiroshi Ebina and Maki Yamamae, koto player Jun Ando, sho player Chatori Shimizu, flutist Lish Lindsey, clarinetist Wonkak Kim, violinists Sabina Torosjan and Michelle Painter, violist Rachel Hauser, cellist Molly Aronson and percussionist/narrator Sean Statser.

"Tokyo to New York" is a series of concerts in Tokyo and New York City that celebrates, honors and recognizes the connections between Tokyo and New York City. Since 2012, "Tokyo to New York" concerts, under the artistic direction of Thomas Piercy, has presented over 60 World Premiers of music composed for Western classical instruments as well as traditional Japanese instruments.
