The cast and crew of Aladdin celebrated their recent opening on Broadway with the famed gypsy robe ceremony. The gypsy robe is traditionally worn by the member of the cast with the most ensemble credits - a 'gypsy' of sorts - and is handed from one show to another as new productions open on Broadway. Each show to receive the robe decorates a section of it with signatures and a memento from their production. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the event and brings you full photo coverage here!

Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical Les Miserables opened last night, Sunday, March 23 on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre. MOTHERS AND SONS, the new play by four-time Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally and starring Tyne Daly, opened March 24. Also in the cast are Bobby Steggert, Frederick Weller, and Grayson Taylor.Lindsay Mendez, who is currently working on A LITTLE MORE ALIVE, recently went backsage at the Golden Theatre to greet the cast. Atlantic Theater Company presents Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's musical THE THREEPENNY OPERA, directed and choreographed by visionary Martha Clarke. THE THREEPENNY OPERA features a cast of 14, including Academy Award-winner F. Murray Abraham,Sophie Bortolussi, Jon David Casey, Timothy Doyle, Lilli Cooper, Rick Holmes, John Kelly, Lindsey Dietz Marchant, Sally Murphy, Tony Award nominee Mary Beth Peil, Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes, Emmy Award-winner Michael Park, Cristina Spina and John Watkins. On Saturday March 22nd, Broadway, TV and Film Star- Jonathan Groff taught a one day musical theatre master class at the Broadway Workshop in New York City. Students in the master class had the opportunity to work with Groff and Broadway Workshop director - Marc Tumminelli on song interpretation, audition technique and received individual feedback and coaching. Michael Pennington, two-time Olivier Award nominee, an artist of international stature and one of England's greatest classical actors, will play the title role in William Shakespeare's tragedy King Lear directed by Arin Arbus. For the second production in Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural season at its first permanent home, the new Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place in Brooklyn, Mr. Pennington leads a company of 22 actors. The Tony-winning production of Pippin just marked its first year at the Music Box. PIPPIN tells the story of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence. Pippin, now playing at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street), is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and features choreography by Tony Award nominee Chet Walker. Disney's Aladdin, a new musical comedy based on the Academy Award®-winning animated film, opened on Broadway last week, at the New Amsterdam Theatre, after beginning performances on February 26th, 2014. The current Broadway company of Newsies features Corey Cott as Jack Kelly, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Liana Hunt as Katherine, Lavon Fisher-Wilson as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andy Richardson as Crutchie and Luca Padovan and Zachary Unger alternating the role of Les. Since bursting onto Broadway, Newsies has set and broken seven Nederlander Theatre house records on its way to becoming the highest-grossing show of the 2011-12 Broadway season.
