The Berkshires, a bucolic region of western Massachusetts, is a haven for theater buffs in summer. You can do it as a daytrip from Boston or New York, but the longer you stay there the more shows you can see.

It's about a 90-minute drive from north (Williamstown) to south (Sheffield) in the Berkshires, and there is top-notch summer stock in both those towns as well as other points along the way. I saw five plays on my recent visit, and they're just a fraction of the theater going on in the Berkshires this season. Check the theater companies' websites for their full schedules, or go to www.berkshires.org for complete visitor information.
