A special concert version of This One Girl's Story, a musical featuring Broadway actors Angela Grovey (Leap of Faith), Danielle K. Thomas (Avenue Q), and Off-Broadway performers will be performed at Middle Collegiate Church on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 pm. Inspired by the life of Sakia Gunn, This One Girl's Story depicts a group of bright young women who suffer anti-gay violence one night in Greenwich Village. Funny, heartbreaking, and triumphant, This One Girl's Story was nominated for a GLAAD Award in 2011 and ran for an extended run at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, winning the Best Ensemble. The book is by Bil Wright; music and lyrics by Dionne McClain-Freeney. Tickets are $10 to the public and are available at bit.ly/OneGirlsStory.
On the evening of Sunday, April 17 at 5 pm, the alternative rock band BETTY (The L Word, Weeds) will sing during a worship featuring the legendary Bishop Yvette Flunder from San Francisco. BETTY's music has been a part of the LGBT and gender rights movements for more than 20 years. They also tour internationally with the Arts Envoys for the U.S. State Department. Sunday's concert and program are free to the public.
Both of these offerings are a part of Middle Church's 10th annual conference focused on racial justice: Revolutionary Love: Tools, Tactics, and Truth-telling to Dismantle Racism this Friday, April 15-Sunday, April 17. Livestreaming tickets are still available for most events at bit.ly/RevolutionaryLove.
