At The LandMark East River Savings Bank Third Floor Ballroom
Peter Dizozza, director of theater at The Williamsburg Art and Historical Center (The WAH Center) and The Brooklyn Playwrights Collective (BPC) introduce a program of plays inspired by The Woman Artist's Journey to highlight the Center's "Women Forward" Art Exhibition.
BPC Members reopened The WAH Theater in October 2008, during the art exhibit celebrating the birth of John Milton, with Paradise Found. Their own festivals include Cruel and Unusual:Works Inspired by Artaud , Beyond Brecht,Confronting Chekhov, and an upcoming festival of new work theatrically highlighting The Letter D.
Writing about "Confronting Chekhov" NYTheatre.com raves, "Clearly, the Brooklyn Playwrights Collective has a talented stable of writers who I commend for taking on Anton Chekhov without bogging things down in dreariness and despair. One of the company's slogans is "Support your local playwright." After seeing this evening of plays, I most certainly will."
The Woman Artist's Journey program features new work by playwrights C.J. Ehrlich, Alaina Hammond, Phil Kaplan, Allen Lefkowitz and Maria Micheles, and special guest poet, Marguerite Rivas.
See the plays and view the exhibit! The curator for the Women Forward Art Exhibition is the artist, Yuko Nii, Founder and Artistic Director of The Williamsburg Art and Historical Center. The exhibit features work by Judy Chicago, Amy GreenField, Faith Ringgold, Toshiko Takaezu plus Yoko Ono's "Imagine Peace". Artwork in the WAH Theatre will include photos by Maria Micheles and Sculptures by Maria Nevelson.
